Canungra

Canungra is the gateway to Lamington National Park, situated in the Gold Coast Hinterland. The stunning area is famous for O’Reilly’s and Binna Burra Resorts and the picturesque valleys of the Coomera River and Canungra Creek.

Canungra’s relaxing country atmosphere and good old fashioned hospitality is a step back in time and adds to its charm. The wooded hills and mountains provide a beautiful backdrop for a picnic, hang-gliding, bushwalking and bird watching.

Small shops and cafes line the main street of this country town. For fresh produce and arts and crafts visit Canungra country markets, held on the fourth Saturday of each month. The village also has its own supermarket. Nearby Mount Tamborine offers charming shops and cafes in the same country setting.

Canungra is known for its wineries and eateries. The Albert River and Canungra Valley wineries have become popular with tourists and locals alike. Relax to the sounds of blues and jazz in the Canungra Valley Vineyards on a Sunday afternoon.

Laheys’ Tramway Tunnel is the lasting reminder of Canungra’s sawmilling past and is worth a visit.

O’Reilly’s and Binna Burra resorts are accessible from Canungra as are Kokoda barracks where it is possible to visit the Museum of Military Intelligence.

Visitors can try the Canungra Information Centre, located on Kidston Street, for more information on things to do in the area
