The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is annually held on the first weekend in July during the winter school holidays. This major event is set to attract more than 25,000 runners and walkers from all over Australia and the world in 2011. Races include the 42.195 kilometre marathon, half marathon (wheelchair race included), 10 kilometre run, five kilometre run and walk and junior dash races for the kids over four kilometres and two kilometres. Runners are attracted by the spectacular coastal and Broadwater scenery, flat and fast course and beautiful weather. Social events include the ASICS Sport and Leisure Expo and the Legends Motivational Carbo Lunch.
